With title printed in red and black. (32), 188 pp. First edition of a Hebrew-Dutch grammar, composed by Eleasar Soesman, a Jewish Rabbi and teacher in Hebrew at Amsterdam. The grammar seems to have been composed for Dutch Christians who wanted to learn the biblical language. The book is dedicated to King Frederick of Prussia, as well as to Cornelius Hugo Vonk and other theologians and professors in Oriental languages, not only at Amsterdam, but also at Leyden, Utrecht, Heidelberg, Nijmegen and Leeuwarden. Laudatory verses on the Hebrew grammar are found also in the preliminaries, one in German. The Hebrew alphabet, grammar and syntax are extensively explained in Dutch. At the end a short Hebrew grammar is added in the form of a catechism in 120 questions and answers. The added dictionaries promised on title are not present here. Good copy.- (Binding rubbed, spine dam., title soiled).
