This paraphrase was translated into various languages and republished till far into the 18th century.
Snoy matriculated at Louvain in 1496, and subsequently went to Bologna where he was awarded a medical doctorate. After his return to Holland he became physician to Adolph of Burgundy, lord of Veere. He was introduced to Charles V, who sent him on various diplomatic missions, a.o. to Denmark and Scotland. After having practiced medicine for some time in England he returned to his native Gouda to devote his further live to the study of theology. Belonging to the circle around Erasmus, the latter called him 'alterum literarum hollandicarum decus'.
