Engraved portrait of the author after a painting by Denner (1718), engraved by C. Fritzsch (Hamburg, 1737), portrait of King Christian IV after a portrait painted by Carel van Mander, engraved by C. Fritzsch (1735), woodcut head- & tailpieces and initials. (6), 3-10, 1534 (=1535), (1) pp. First edition of an extensive and important work on the life of the famous and glorious Danish King Christian IV (1577-1648) and on the history of Denmark and Norway in general, divided in four parts, starting in the year 1588 and ending with the death of Christian IV. The work is written by Niels Slange (1656-1737), chancellor at the court, who could base his biography on the original documents. The work was commissioned by king Christian VI (1699-1746), who ordered that Hans Gram (1685-1748), royal librarian & historian and professor in Greek at the university of Copenhagen, examined the work. A German translation was published at Copenhagen/ Leipzig in 1757-71. Fine copy.- (Hinges weak; frontcover restored; some minor foxing; between pp. 968-970 misnumbered (two different p. 968)).
