First edition of an interesting account on the waterfalls and the Trollhätta canal in Sweden, illustrated with a series of sepia aquatints after drawings by Count Skjöldebrand (1757-1834) showing impressive scenery with sluces & cataracts. The Trollhätta canal, which connects Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden, to the Baltic sea through the river Göta, was inaugurated in August 1800. The work consists of a short treatise divided in five chapters: a chapter on the origin of the name Trollhätta, a topographical description of the region, a description of the waterfalls, a historical account on the construction of the canal and the sluces, and the fifth chapter concludes with a critical summary of the works.
