Beautiful work on the antiquities of Oxfordshire with impressive views of buildings and artefacts. The plates were executed by the eminent engraver and publisher Joseph Skelton (1783-1871), some in collaboration with others and mostly after drawings by Frederick Mackenzie (1788(?)-1854). The work was issued in 13 parts between 1823 and 1827, the last part including a list of subscribers. The section on Wootton contains a lengthy description and a detailed plan of the Roman villa that was discovered in North Leigh in 1813 and excavated the following years.

Soiling and foxing throughout; binding soiled and damaged. Good copy of a sumptuously illustrated work.
