Second edition, much enlarged with theatre anecdotes and newly added observations, of a thorough course on theatre acting, anonymously published by Jean Nicolas Servandoni, dit d'Hannetaire (1718-1780), an actor of the theatre himself. The book is especially intended for beginning actors and actresses, as the author is convinced that all actors need a teacher and that acting is an art which should be studied. All that is known or written on the subject is conveniently brought together in one volume, and the author's observations are often illustrated by means of small theatre stories or anecdotes. The author explains about the changes made in the present second edition in the preface, and the publisher added a laudatory letter on the book by Marmontel.

Good copy.- (Binding sl. rubbed; some old ink scribbling on endpapers).
