First edition of the Dutch translation of Johann Ludwig Christ's Pomologisches theoretisch-praktisches Handwörterbuch (1802) by the German born Jakob Frederik Serrurier (1771-1844), enlarged with the "most essential" information from the work of the Scottish botanist William Forsyth (1737-1804), chief superintendent of the royal gardens at Kensington and St James's.
Serrurier studied theology in Leyden and became a minister in Zwolle, before turning his attention to agriculture. Johann Ludwig Christ (1739-1813) also was a man of the cloth with an interest in natural history.
