Jacob Frederik Serrurier (Hanau 1771- The Hague 1844) studied Theology in Leiden and became a clergyman in 1795 in the city of Zwolle. In 1803 he started to interest himself for agriculture and developed new methods in that area. He published several translations of agricultural works, a.o. J.L. Christ's Fruitkundig woordenboek. In 1815 he settled himself in Amsterdam and became the secretary for the commission of agriculture in the province Noord-Holland. In this capacity he wrote De Buitenman, of which this copy is a complete set.
