Elfde druk. Leyden, Deventer, Groningen, D. du Mortier en Zoon, J. de Lange & J. Oomkens, 1827. Sm.8vo. Orig. blue wrappers. With 2 folding plates with calligraphic specimen. 48 pp.

Rare schoolbook published by the Dutch educational society "Tot Nut van 't Algemeen" under the from old very popular title "Steps of Youth". But apart from its title the book has nothing in common with the A B book by Gelliers and Cramer. Although still divided in lessons, 48 in the present case, and printed in a great variety of lettertypes, including Gothic and Civilité, the book now is quite a different A B -, spelling-, reading-, and writing-book, and its contents general educational and moralistic. To the present 11th edition for the first time two calligraphic specimen are added, to prevent this old art from disappearing, as is explained in the new preface.

Good copy.- (Child's ms. entry on inside frontcover; few  sl. stains).
Coll. Caljé-Van Gulik 583; KLKL 101 (2nd ed. of 1793); Met Rooie Oortjes 41.
