Rare first edition of one of the beautifully produced and hand-coloured picture books for children, published by G. Theod. Bom at Amsterdam. No author is given, but the poems were probably provided as usual by Jan Schenkman. The picture books of G.Theod. Bom were without dispute the most attractive and entertaining for children at the time. "Pierrot's Life" is especially entertaing for its many jokes and naughty tricks played upon grown-ups, as well as for its wild adventures in exotic countries. Pierrot presents here rather a mixure of various other popular characters, like Thyl Ulenspiegel, Gulliver and Baron Munchausen.
Unmanagable already as a child at home and at school, as well as later at his various jobs, Pierrot flies away on a goose's back and becomes King of an exotic country of Lilliputians. When in trouble again, he escapes in a sea horn. When he finally returns to his native village, he decides he has learned his lesson and will stay at home in future and serve his foster parents. So at the end a moral is present after all.
