(Amsterdam, Pieter Schenk, ca. 1705). Oblong 4to (bookblock measuring 194 x 255 mm.). Contemporary half calf, spine ribbed and gilt in compartments, with red morocco title label lettered in gold, sprinkled edges. With engraved title, and 100 full-page views of the city of Rome, with  2-line text in Latin and Dutch underneath, engraved on the plate, all plates signed Pet: Schenck.

With richly engraved allegorical title, full-page engraved dedication to Frederik Duke of Saxony, full-page mezzo-tint  portrait of the Duke, 4 engraved half-titles, and 4 series of engraved views, resp.: (Pars prima), containing 19 views of the most charming places along the Rhine; (Pars secunda. Loani, ut at villarum Regis Gulielmi reliquaryum conspectus selectiores), containing 25 views of 'Het Loo' (17), 'Huis ten Bosch' (2), 'Honselaarsdijk' (2), 'Rijswijk' (1), and 'Sorgvliet' (2); (Pars tertia Hagae Comitis conspectus iucundissimi), containing 10 views of The Hague and Scheveningen; and (Pars quarta. Amstelaedami, conspectus magnifici et augusti), containing 17 views of Amsterdam, all with 2-line text in Latin and Dutch underneath, engraved on the plate,and all signed Pet: Schenck; with engraved index-leaf at the end of the in total 71 views.

Ad 1: Extremely rare collection of views of ancient and contemporary Rome, engraved and published  by the famous Dutch artist and publisher Pieter Schenk.
Ad 2: Rare series of views of four different subjects with separate engraved half-titles by Jan van Call (1655-1716): (1) 19 views of the most charming places along the Rhine; (2) 25 views of the most important houses and palaces of Stadholder/King William III in the Netherlands; (3) 10 views of the most charming and interesting places of The Hague, including a view of Scheveningen; and (4)  17 views of Amsterdam.

Fine copy, with the bookplate of Charles Dashwood Bruce.- (Binding sl. rubbed at the corners).
Springer p. 44 (only the second series of the 2nd work); Hollstein XXV, 1497-1596 (the first work), and 181 (for the second work, erroneously calling for 18 instead of 10 views of The Hague), and 599 (for the mezzo-tint portrait).
