SCHENK, Pieter.Rozendael. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Amsterdam, Petrus Schenk, 1702. Not bound. Engraved dedication to Joan Baron van Arnhem and 14 (out of 16) engraved plates (ca. 165 x 195 mm) of the manor house Rozendael near Arnhem and its lovely gardens after the drawings by J. van Call, each with Dutch and Latin text at left and right underneath. Print series with an engraved dedication leaf to the owner Joan Baron of Arnhem and 14 engraved plates of this beautiful manor house near Arnhem, Gelderland. It is the first series fully depicting this still existing estate. The shape of the gardens at Rozendael were modernized by Jan van Arnhem after his marriage to his cousin Johanne Margriete van Arnhem in 1667. Various differences in the level of the area were particularly significant as this meant that cascades and fountains were supplied by water that flowed naturally in the hilly landscape in the surroundings of Arnhem. Jan van Arnhem, whom was an admirer of the building and garden arts , introduced renovations in the garden from year to year. This suite of prints was published as part five in the series Paradisus oculorum, sive conspectus elegantissimi centum (Amster5dam, Petrus Schenk, 1702), together with print series of The Loo, Dieren, Voorst, Duinrel and the 'Praetorium' of the Swedish King. Good copy in 15 loose sheets.- (A bit short cut, but, apart from one caption, not affecting the plates).
