Edizione prima Veneta. Venice, Antonio Mora, 1745. Folio. Contemporary vellum, spine ribbed. Title in red & black, engraved frontispiece and 12 engraved plates with many mechanical and perspectival figures. (16), 204 pp.

Rare first Venetian edition of a work on the mechanical devices used for constructing fountains, buildings, bridges etc. in the 18th century. The work was first published in Bologna in 1711.
The author, Carlo Cesare Scaletta (1666-1748), architect, scientist and poet wrote several books on mechanical, technical and scientific subjects. The work is dedicated to Giovanni Jacopo Foscarini. On the frontispiece the construction of an obelisk in honour of Foscarini is constructed with the aid of an advanced mechanical construction. Above the obelisk to angels fly, carrying a coat-of-arms.
