En met aartige poëtische gedachten verreikt. ![]() Leiden, 's-Grav., Joh. Arnold Langerak, Paulus van der Pette, 1715. Small 8vo. Wrappers. With engraved frontispiece of a Bacchanal by R. Blokhuisen. (12), 180 pp. Popular satire on the cult of Bacchus. As the anonymous author explains in the preface, the book is really a "Praise of Wine" modelled after the "Praise of Folly" by Erasmus, but that does not mean, the author warns his readers, that he is a drunkard, no less than Erasmus can be considered a fool. The drinking of wine is satirically recommended on the basis of classical and modern authors, accompanied by the author's own reflexions. The book is of special interest for its numerous quotations on the use of wine through history. Good uncut copy.- (Waterst. at the bottom of the first quire).
