First edition of this renowned and elaborately illustrated treatise on fortification. The work is divided into seven books, devoted to the use of fortification, the background to construction and maintenance, guidelines for building, encampment, drill and manoeuvres, and finally mathematics. The detailed illustrations provide a "comparative treatise on the systems of fortification, again much concerned with Dutch practice of the period" (Bury & Berman). Contrary to the suggestion of Jähns, the Corno dogale is not a second edition of the Corono imperiale, but an entirely different work.
