Macerata, Bartolomeo Capitani, 1779. 4to. Contemporary vellum, red speckled edges. Woodcut ornament on title, illustration in text, woodcut headpiece and initials. XVI, 112 pp.

Rare first and only edition of this bio-bibliographical work discussing important mathematicians and other scientists from the province Piceno, from the Renaissance to the 18th century, such as for example Antonius Accursi, Gregorius Ammiani, Romulus Brogli, Saladinus Ferri, Democritus Vicomanni, etc. The work is preceded by a dedication to Prospero and Alexandro Marefuschiis, dated Macerata, 1 August 1779 (p. iii-vii) and a preface by the author (p. ix-xi). A list of errata can be found on page 112.
The work is written by Giuseppe Santini (1735- 1796), professor of philosophy and mathematics at the University of Macerata. Our copy contains numerous marginal annotations in ink and an index on the last flyleaf in contemporary handwriting. A manuscript annotation on the last flyleaf attributes these notes to Giuseppe Ranaldi, who died on September 28, 1854.

Fine copy.
Riccardi I, p. 420.
