Bouis (Rue Montesquieu, Paris) of the dirigible, titled 'Navire Aèrien dirigeable, Système Sanson Père et Fils'; the various units separately illustrated: a 'Mécanisme de transmission de mouvement aux ailes, vue de profil', the 'Regulateur', and the 'Roues locomotives vues de profuil. Manivelle vue de face', a smaller woodcut of the same dirigible on p. 5.

In the original wrappers with a large fascinating lithographed plate on the front cover with an angel floating over the globe and a flying dirigible, and blowing a trumpet with the motto 'Conquête de l'aire'. With large spectacular folding lithographed plate (40x23,5 cm) by the Imp. Lithogr. First edition of this very rare, early and remarkable brochure on navigation in the air and the dirigible (manoeuvrable balloon). The brochure starts with the project to built a dirigible, estimated at 30.000 francs to be financed by the issue of 300 shares of 100 francs: 'Projet de Société aéronautique pour la production et l'exploitation, pendant cinq années, du système Sanson père et fils. Navire aérienne', including an estimation of the costs, as well as the expected profits (pp. 5-6). On pp. 7-11: 'Du point d'appue aérien', on the resistance of the air, necessary for manoeuvring; pp. 13-25: 'Le point d'appui aérien applicable à l'aérostation'; p. 27: 'Lettre du M. Dupuis Delcourt à l'auteur, à propos de l'aérostation et de la publication de cet ouvrage, dated Paris 7 March 1841; pp. 29-31: 'Liste des personnes qui en différens temps, en différens lieux et en mille circonstances, se sont élevées dans les airs un plus ou moins grand nombre de fois'.
During the following years father and son Sanson have published a number of works elaborating on the same subject: Navigation atmosphérique. Explications complémentaires sur le système (1845); Explication du système de navigation aérienne (1848), and Solution du problème de la navigation aérienne, principes, preuves et moyens (1850).

Very important for the history of aviation.
