On the maps of the coastal areas the depths are accurately indicated enabling ships to sail the waters of the Dutch East Indies safely.
The first volume is devoted to the West coast of Sumatra and the South coast of Java, volume 2 to North coast of Java, the Java Sea and the surroundings of Banca, Gaspar and Carimata, volume 3 to the islands and streets to the West of Java, the Street of Ombay, and that of Macassar. Volume 4 describes the Street of Malacca, Singapour, Durian, Rhio and the Linga archipelago. In the fifth volume the routes to the Cape of Good Hope and China are described. All volumes appeared in the series of the French Dépôt des cartes et plans de la marine, as nos. 422, 428, 433, 437 and 442.
