Very rare first edition of a popular treatise on dogs used for hunting, dedicated to the Marquis of Lauriston, a great sportsman. The work treats matters such as the history of hunting dogs, the breeding of races, how to keep your dog healthy and protect it against illnesses and which dogs are suitable for hunting and how to train them. The plates beautifully depict all the races proper for the sport of hunting. A title-edition was published around 1835 by Bouchard-Huzard in Paris.

Very good copy, with the pasted armorial bookplate of E. Van Havre on inside of front cover and his blindstamped coat of arms on title.- (Small pasted shelf number on onside of front cover; some spotting, not affecting ills.).
Souhart p. 411; Thiébaud cols. 792-793; cf. Schwerdt II, p. 139.
