Rare Saint Nicholas cantata

With musical notation in numbers. 36, (4) pp. Rare and interesting school songbook with a cantata for children's choir on the theme of Saint Nicholas, an important feast for Dutch children. The music was composed by the Dutch composer, Bernard Zweers (1854-1924), very popular at the time. The present cantata is much enlivened by the use of well-known popular songs and nursery-rhymes on the theme of Saint Nicholas. And for more easy use by children, the musical notation is given in a number system, with numbers from 1 to 7, and with 1 for any key-note to start from. This system was introduced in the 1840s, so children could sing from written music without first having to learn the rather difficult musical notation of notes on bars. It is interesting to meet with this system again, which proves that it found some popularity in schools. Good copy.- (Sl. traces of use).
