First edition of this important early work on electricity and electro-physics which can be seen as the standard work on this subject at that time. The book treats various manifestations and forms of electricity, useful instruments, sources of electricity, several applications, etc.
Auguste Arthur de la Rive (1801-1873) became a professor of Physics in 1821 at the university of Genova. During his life he travelled a.o. to Paris and London, where he was admitted to the Societé Royale. His countless researches were a.o. on magnetism, heating of gasses, the temperature of the earth's crust, the Northern Light and electricity, the last subject being the main subject of this work.
