Original edition of an account on the Jesuit mission in the south of Vietnam

Original edition of an account on the Jesuit mission in the south of Vietnam, the Cochinchine region, by  Father Alexander de Rhodes (Avignon 1591 - Ispahan 1660). In 1612 he became a Jesuit at Rome. In 1618 he got permission the go on a mission to Asia. First he went to Macao a.o. to study Asian languages. Then he went to Tonkin and Cochinchine. Here he was imprisoned and later banned from the region. He returned to Europe and died  in 1660 during a new mission to Persia. The work is dedicated to Princess Marie LĂ©onor de Rohan by Jacques di Machault.
