Full-page portrait of Bartolomeo Bosco on frontispiece, title vignette. 96 pp. Very rare second Dutch edition of a conjuring manual with 200 descriptions of magic tricks, games and recipes for fireworks, invisible ink etc. meant for children by the most famous magician and conjuror Bartolomeo Bosco (Turin 1793-1863). Bosco was a great cup-and-ball artist and he travelled through Europe performing both for Royals and common people. He was the most popularmagician of the second quarter of the nineteenth century. The first Dutch edition appeared in 1845 and was translated by Rhadamantus after the 24th German edition from the Italian original. In 1864 the third Dutch edition appeared. The foreword is signed by D. (=Rhadamantus). Fair copy, with ''Goochelkunst" written in ink on first fly-leaf.- (Wrappers sl. loose and corners bumped; spine dam.; title-page waterstained).
