Twelve vieuws of Leeuwarden as it was in 1849

Contemp. half cloth, with lithographed boards with text printed in colours within nicely decorated colour printed borders. With 12 full-page lithographed views of Leeuwarden by Izaak Reynders. (4), 48 pp. First edition of a fine lithographed-plates book with the latest views of the city of Leeuwarden. The initiative had been taken by Willem Eekhoff, who had published a historical description of the city of Leeuwarden and felt that by the nature of that work no room had been left for the beautiful contemporary views the city also had to offer. So he invited the Leeuwarden artist Izaak Reynders to provide his drawings for a separate publication, to which he added short decriptions. Views are shown of the city-gardens, the cemetry, the town-hall, the club-house Amicitia, the Prince Frederik Barracks, the Palace of Justice, and several views of the outskirts of the city with their new and spacious recreation areas. Good copy of a rare plates-book.- (Plastic mounted over binding).
