Till Owlglass disguised as Reynard the Fox
[REYNARD THE FOX].De streken van Reintje van der Schalk, Markies van Eijerstruiven.     Tweede druk. Rotterdam, Mensing, Van Westreenen, (ca. 1830). Oblong 8vo. Wrappers. With 16 full-page engraved plates, all beautifully coloured by hand. 26 pp. Beautiful handcoloured children's picture and colouring book on Reynard the Fox, accompanied by explanatory verses. The stories on Reynard however are freely invented and very funny, Reynard playing all kinds of roguish tricks, which in fact partly belong to the stories about Tyl Ulenspiegel. The large illustrative plates, meant for the children to colour themselves, show Reynard and all the other animals, but also Reynard among humans, eating at a table, ringing the bells in the church-tower, etc. In the end the fox is punished by cutting off his ears and tail, a rather cruel indictment, which is also depicted on one of the plates. Good, nicely coloured copy.- (Front wrapper replaced by later blind wrapper; a few sl. stains).
