First editions of two rare satirical pamphlets, completing each other, against the Huguenot ministers of the Languedoc. Of special interest is that some parts are written in "patois". Guillaume Reboul (Nîmes ca. 1550 - Rome 1611), a notorious French pamphletist, came originally from a Huguenot family, was converted to Catholicism, but was excommunicated almost immediately. As secretary to the Duke of Bouillon he cheated the Duke out of a large amount of money, and fled to the Pope's Court at Avignon, where his ban was lifted. He then went to Rome where he became the protégé of Cardinal Baronius.
He wrote several violent satirical pamphlets against the French Huguenots, for example the present work La Cabale des Reformez, which raised a storm of protests, especially as he attacked the Huguenot ministers very personal under their full name. To their threats he answered with the also present Apologie sur La Cabale, in which he continued his attacks. At last he went too far in writing a violent satire against the pope - which never seems to have been  printed - but for which he was sentenced to death and executed in his prison-cell.

Good copy.- (Some stains; around the "Harangue du Père Iardinier" transcription in French in old faded ink in the margins).
STC French p. 88; Brunet IV, col. 1133; Graesse VI, p. 43; Barbier I, 49.
