First Dutch edition of the popular imaginary voyage, written by the Scottish Baronet Andrew Michael Ramsay (1686-1743),  known as the Chevalier Ramsay. The author lived most of his adult in France and Les voyages de Cyrus first appeared in Paris in 1727. The story  is situated in classical times for the purpose of teaching youth in an entertaining and adventurous way on all aspects of life in classical antiquity, its history, religion, customs, etc. At the end a separate treatise on classical mythology is added so as not to burden the main work to much with explanatory notes. To prove the authenticity of all data mentioned and thus the value of the work as an instruction book a letter to that effect is supplied by a certain Mr. Ferret, a member of the Academy of Inscriptions.

Good but sl. used copy.- (Binding sl. rubbed; first title and front. sl. soiled).
Buisman 1893; Scheepers II, 569.
