Modern half pigskin with paper boards. 30 half page engravings ( à 201 x 172 mm) on 15 leaves by and after Abraham Rademaker. (14) pp. Original edition of the 30 picturesque views on villages and stately homes, estates and pleasure gardens of Dutch nobility and eminent citizens between Amsterdam and Haarlem, all beautifully engraved by Abraham Rademaker. It contains a preface by the printer Leonardus Schenk (1696-1767), dated 1728, and a poetical description by Gysbert Tysens (1693-1732). The poem glorifies the history and beauty of the region and its inhabitants. Rademaker (1675-1735), was a selftaught painter, draftsman and engraver, who published a number of beautiful and famous plates under the titles; Versameling van hondert vijftig Nederlantse oudheeden en gezigten... (2 vols. 1725), Kabinet van Nederlansche en Kleefse oudheden... (1727-1733), Rijnlands fraaiste gezigten... (1732). In the series to which present plates belong, Rademaker also published Spiegel van Amsterdams zomervreugd (s.a.) and Hollands Arcadia of de rivier de Amstel (1730), both with a poetical description by Tysens and published by Schenk. Both the engravings and the poem glorify the Amsterdam and Kennemerland region from the city of Amsterdam along the boat-canal to Haarlem, including the villages Spaarnewoude en Sparendam. Title and engravings are accompanied by captions in Dutch and French. Good copy.
