The last volume: Vervolg, of derde en leste deel der Gedichten ... in the second re-issue (the first issue had appeared in 1735). The first edition of Poot's poems which were available at that time, appeared in 1716, followed by a second issue with a new title in 1718. These editions soon became an overwhelming success, primarily because of the nineteen love songs which were included. Some of them became 'classics' of the Dutch eighteenth-century literature. Apart from the wedding poems, funeral songs, religious poems, etc., especially the poems on poetry and poethood are very well-known. Vol. 1: after the half-title, frontispiece, title, dedication to Adriaan Swalmius, the 'Berecht aen den lezer' by Poot, dated Abtswoud, 10 October 1721, laudatory poems by D. van Hoogstraten and Joan de Haes, follow Poot's poems divided in 'Voorzangen' (pp. 1-12), 'Bybelstoffen' (pp. 13-100), 'Geboorte dichten' (pp. 101-125), 'Minne-dichten' (pp. 126-190), 'Bruiloft-dichten' (pp. 191-230), 'Lyk- en grafdichten' (pp. 231-264), 'Lofdichten' (pp. 265-304), and 'Mengeldichten' (pp. 305-444). Vol. 2: after the half-title, title, dedication to Willem Vlaerdingerwout by Poot, dated Abtswoud, 4 November 1727, 'Aen den lezer' by Poot, contents and errata, follow Poot's poems divided in 'Brieven' (pp. 1-96), 'Veltzangen' (pp. 97-144), 'Geboorte-dichten' (pp. 145-186), 'Bruiloftdichten' (pp. 187-272), 'Lyk- en Grafdichten' (pp. 273-320), 'Lofdichten' (321-354), and 'Mengeldichten' (pp. 355-448). Vol. 3: after the half-title, title, dedication to Mr. Diderik van Bleyswyk by Reinier Boitet, 'D'uitgever aen den lezer', dated The Hague, 19 November 1734, 'Het leven van Hubert Korneliszoon Poot', a biography of the author by J. Spex (pp. 1-61), 'Lykklagt over Hubert Korneliszoon Poot' ((3) pp.), follow the 'Vervolg der gedichten van H.K. Poot' (pp. 1-164, and the 'Lyk- en grafdichten op H.K. Poot' (elegies on Poot), including elegies by J.A. van Kinschot, D. van Bleyswyk, A. Hoogvliet, D. Smits, Willem van der Pot, and the publisher Reinier Boitet (pp. 165-268). What makes this set so attractive is the way these volumes are bound by a bindery that could be identified as the so-called 'Three Acorn Bindery' at Amsterdam. This bindery was active between ca. 1760 and 1780, working for the Stadtholder, the famous Haarlem publishing House Enschede and an anonymous book collector who can be related to Pieter van Damme. Very nice uniformly bound set.
