First edition of the complete set of the first part of the account on the expedition to Madagascar by François Paul Louis Pollen (1842-1886) and Douwe Casparius van Dam (1827-1898). These five volumes form the first part of an investigation and report on the expedition covering the natural history and environs of Madagascar, separately delivered in 4 issues. Part II covers mammals and birds, Part IV covers fish, and Part V covers insects and shells. Part III (reptiles) was never published.
