Only 5 of the original 26 lvs. of this fine and rare French writing book present here, most likely because single leaves were dealt out to the pupils as models. They include the title, calligraphed in about a dozen different handwriting types, and decorated with fine calligraphic pendrawings of birds. Also included is the calligraphed preface with writing instructions. The work mostly is ascribed to the engraver Senault, but from the preface is to be learned that Poilly drew the specimen. The preface also informs us that the course was meant for beginners in the art of writing.
