Extremely rare medical work by Johannes Baptista Persona (Albino, Bergamo 1575 - Bergamo 1619) containing 14 discourses on various medical subjects in the form of dialogues, orations, discussions and letters. Persona (or Giovanni Battista Personè) studied theology and philosophy at the University of Milan with the Jesuit Bernardino Salino. After having obtained his doctorate in Medicine at the famous University of Padova, he settled in Bergamo as a physician.
After the title, 'Approbationes', dedication to Laelius Leonus and laudatory poems by Bonifacius Garavinus, Publius Fontana, Dominicus Plebanus and Pacinus Commendunus Albinensis, and the index, follow the 14 discourses with titles as "Quod natura sit primaria morborum medicae, & qua ratione morbos curet", 'Conciliantur quaedam Galeniloca, quae inter apertè pugnantia hactenus enumerata sunt", "De recta methodo curandi morbos ignotos", "De anodynis medicamentis", "Conciliantur duo Hippocratis loca, quae pugnare videntur", etc.

Provenance: According to a contemporary ownership's entry written on the title, the book was bought in Milan in May 1604: Georgii Gremberg(ensis?) (Grimberg?) medici Archiducalis (added later: comitis Palat. et equitis ...) emptus Mediolai mense Maio MDCIIII". He is probably the one who entered several marginal annotations.

Good copy with interesting provenance.-
