The pedagogic essentials of the Renaissance collected

[PEDAGOGY].
De disciplina puerorum recteque formandis eorum studiis et moribus, ac simultam preceptorum quam parentum in eodem officio: doctorum virorum libelli aliquot vere aurei. Ad ingenuuorum adolescentum commoditatem atque usum collecti.

Basel, Joannes Oporinus, Samuel Apiarum, 1556, mense martio. Two works in one volume. 8vo. 17th century calf, spine and covers richly gilt with fleurs-de-lys. (16), 804 pp.

With:
(2) GRAECORUM VETERUM selectae brevesque Epistolae. Paris, Guil. Morel in Graecis typographum Regium, 1562. Woodcut vignet on title. (48) pp.

Two extremely rare works bound in a beautiful 17th century binding.
Ad 1: An extremely rare collective edition of 27 pedagogic works, published in the first half of the sixteenth century. The work comprises a.o. texts by Louis Vives (De ratione studii..., De instutione Puella Lib. ..., Ad sapientiam introductio...), by Erasmus (De instituendis pueris lib..., De civilitate morum peurilium..., Concio de puero...), by Rudolph Agricola (De formando studio...), by Melanchton (De corrigendis studio sermo...), by Christophe Hegendorf (De instituenda vita et corrigendis moribus iuventutis Paraenesis...), by Otho Brundels (De disciplina et puerorum institutione Paraenesis...), by Sebald Heyden (Paedonomia scholastica...) etc., etc. Even de seperately published works are very rare and hard to bring all together. This collection represents the essential pedagogic concepts and opinions of the Renaissance.
Ad 2:  Very rare selection of Greek texts, printed by Guillaume Morel. A Latin translation is included.

Very fine copies in a beautiful binding.- (First work cut short at upper edge with loss of some headings and some leaves heavily annotated, second work with ample margins and some ms. notes in text).
Ad 1: No copies listed in NUC or BL.2: No copies listed in NUC, BL or BN.
