Paris, Imprimerie des Bâtimens du Roi & de l'Academie Royale de Peinture, 1789. 12mo. Later half green buckram, with gilt title on spine, marbled boards. 64 pp.

Rare catalogue of the 1789 art exhibition, the yearly 'Paris Salon' with descriptions of paintings, sculptures and engravings by members of the 'Académie Royale de Peinture et Sculpture', which was founded in 1663 by Louis XIV and Colbert. These exhibitions - the 'Sallons', as they were called - were organized every year by the Académie (since 1725) in the 'Sallon carré du Louvre'. In 1793 the Académie was converted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts by David. Later this Académie was re-named the 'Société des Artistes Français', the administrative group of the Salon de Paris formed in 1881 when the French government withdrew official sponsorship from the annual Salon. The last 'Salon' was helt in 1925.
On the title is noted that the exposition was organized by the Comte Charles Claude de La Billardrie d'Angiviller (1730-1809), Conseiller du Roi en ses conseils, ... Directeur & Ordonnateur-Général des batimens de Sa Majesté, jardins, arts, académies, etc.
