Woodcut endpiece. 19, (1) pp. Notes from the City Counsel of Utrecht on the plans to expand and improve the city of Utrecht at the Westside, instigated by the Burgomaster of Utrecht, Hendrick Moreelse (1615-1666). Moreelse was Burgomaster of Utrecht since 1662. Following the plans of his father, the painter Paulus Moreelse, he developed a plan to expand and renew the city. Not all the citizens agreed with his plans. He got engaged in a row with a fierce adversary of the plans, the minister Voetius, who acted for the richer citizens. The argument ended in the resignation of his post as a Burgomaster in 1 October 1664. Only a small part of the plans of Moreelse were actually realised. Fine copy.
