[PAMPHLET - DUTCH HISTORY - BREDA].
l'Ordre du siege de la ville de Breda, contre les forces Espagnolles: par monsieur le Prince d'Orange General de l'armee Hollandoise. Suivant l'arrest qui en a esté faict au camp de son altesse, le dixiesme de septembre 1634.

Woodcut ornament on title, woodcut headpiece and initial.

Lyon, Claude de Villiers, (1634) Sm. 8vo. Woodcut ornament on title, woodcut headpiece and initial. 14 pp.

Extremely rare issue of a pamphlet of an army report on the preparations for a siege of Breda by the army of the Dutch Republic under the Stadtholder Frederick Henry. The army had left Nijmegen to go to Breda which was in the hands of the Spaniards since the conquest of the city by the Spanish general Spinola in June 1625. The hidden motive of these praparations was to distract the Spanish army that was threatening the city of Maastricht, some 150 kilometers south-east of Breda. In 1637, however Frederick Henry captured breda after a seven week's siege. Since then the city remained part of the United Provinces.
We found only one other copy recorded in the Brigham University in Utah! Issued in The Hague on 12 September 1634, the pamphlet is printed in Lyon by Claude de Villiers. Another issue of this pamphlet is printed in Paris by P. Mettayer, which is also very rare.

Fine copy.
Not in Knuttel.
