Second, much enlarged edition of a detailed historical description of the city of Leiden by Jan Orlers, bookseller and later burgomaster of the city of Leiden (1580-1646). The book is now fully brought up to date and corrected. This edition contains the first biographies of Rembrandt, p. 375, and Gerrit Dou, pp. 377-380. The plan of Leyden (dated 1614) is by G. Bouttats after J. Peeters and based on a drawing by Jan Pietersz. Dou. The two maps show the siege and relief of the city in 1574. The engravings in the text mainly show buildings, including a plan of the Hortus, a view into the library and the Theatrum Anatomicum.

Some occasional soiling. Pasted bookplate of H.H. Jonkers on inside front cover. Fine copy of this classic description of Leyden.
