Interesting collection of optical views
[OPTICAL VIEWS].[Collection of engraved optical views.] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Augsburg, Probst, [ca. 1780]. Oblong folio. Collection of 19 engraved optical prints (ca. 32 x 42 cm), all beautifully coloured by hand, including 3 prints with perforations and cut-out windows with transparent coloured paper mounted on verso. Interesting collection of hand-coloured optical views. The genre became very popular at the end of the 18th century and can be regarded as the forerunner of the magic lantern. The collection primarily comprises views of famous cities and palaces, such as the main square in the city of Quebec, the Ponte delle Navi in Verona, and the Quirinal in Rome. Good copies, all in fine and bright colouring.
