Dilingen, Joannes Federle, typis Joannis Caspari Bencard, April 1682. Large 4to. Contemporary vellum over boards, elaborately gilt tooled (blackened) with nine different floral rolls and floral stamps in the central panels, remnants of ties, gilt edges. With two full-page allegorical beautifully engraved plates, the first showing the judgement of Salomo and the second showing the Count in armour with a quill in his right hand, some nice head- and tailpieces, printed in 2 columns. (6),101, (3) pp.

Original and only edition of this philosophical/juridical dissertation, written and defended by a member of the count's family Oettingen-Wallerstein (branch Oettingen-Spielberg), Count Franz Albrecht zu Oettingen-Wallerstein (1663-1737) under the supervision of Prof. Johann Banholzer (1645-1725) who was appointed professor at Dillingen in 1679 and who entered the Jesuit order in 1681. The 19 year's old Count had prepared himself not only for war, but also for the arts and humanities, as the second allegorical plate shows: he is depicted there as a Count in armour with a quill in his right hand, leaning on his shield with the motto: 'Ad utrumque paratur'. In 1735 the Count was raised to the 'Reichsführerstand'.

Good copy of this rare work.- (Ms. entry dated Oettingen, 1710 on the verso of the front cover: 'Ex dono...Francisci Alberti comitis in Öttingen...possidet H. Beeckius (?)'; some occ. soiling and staining; gilding on the binding blackened and somewhat worn).
