First and only edition of this very interesting work on hydraulic engineering by the architect (Bouwmeester) of Zwolle, Hendrik Jasper Nuis (d. 1694). After the title-page follows a preface (pp. (3)-(4)), in which the author explains that he has written this little book on the basis of his proposals he has submitted earlier for inundating the land around Zwolle and Hasselt in defence of the provinces Overijssel, Fiesland and Groningen. The text, divided into 29 proposals, treats systematically and mathematically the deepening and silting up of rivers and harbours.
