Beautiful atlas of the natural wonders of the world, the half-title reading: "Album de la Jeunesse Studieuse", so it was intended for children, at least for children of the more well-to-do, as the album is rather costly produced. It was probably originally published in parts of one plate and one leaf of text each, as all text-leaves have a colophon with the printer's address, G. Silbermann, Strasbourg. The text is entirely printed in blue, and all the plates are protected by a leaf of thin rice-paper. All plates are signed by E. Lemaitre, Strasbourg. The plates also include a view of the gold diggers at work in California in 1848, the "Peak of Adam" with a short history of Ceylon, the salt mountains in Spain, the Grotte of Fingal in Scotland, the path of the Giants in Ireland, the Peter-Bot mountain on the island Mauritius, a natural bridge in the mountains of Virginia in North-America, views of the icy landscapes of the North and South Pole, etc.

Beautiful copy in publisher's "Romantic" binding.
