On the French-English relations and hostilities during the last French and Indian war
[MOREAU, Jacob-Nicolas].Lettres d'un François a un Hollandois au sujet des differends survenus entre la France et la Grande Bretagne, touchant leurs possessions respectives dans l'Amerique Septentrionale. ![]() ![]() ![]() Paris, P. La Rive, 1755. 4to. Modern boards preserving the original wrappers. 90 pp. Rare account of the French-English relations and hostilities during the last French and Indian war, on the eve of the European Seven year's war (1756-1763). The English and French fought each other in Europe but also in America and India to conquer each other's colonies and to firm their positions. This treatise is written from a French point of view and was clearly written to convince the Dutch correspondent of the aggressiveness of the English. It includes an account of the battles fought in North America, today's Canada. This work is attributed to Jacob-Nicolas Moreau (1717-1804), a French publicist who later became the librarian of the French queen Marie-Antoinette. Sabin and Lande also list an 8vo edition, published in the same year but without place and publisher, whereas Knuttel only mentions a 4to edition. Good copy.
Knuttel 18468; Lande 656; Sabin 50563.
