Charming booklet with gastronomic verses and recipes by famous French authors published under the direction of the 19th-century French journalist, novelist, poet, playwright and gourmand Charles Monselet (1825-1888). Monselet's works on gastronomic subjects are much sought because of their originality of treatment and charming style (Bitting). By his contemporaries he was called 'Le roi des gastronomes'.
There is also an edition with the same number of pages, printed in Paris, by M. Lévy in the 'Collection Hetzel', also in 1859.
