Orig. boards, vols. 3 and 12 white boards with printed title within engraved oval wreath of leaves coloured by hand in green on both covers, and vol. 8 green boards with mounted orange title-label with titles set within ornamental borders on both sides. With 13 full-page engraved plates depicting a pyramid, trumpet, tourniquet, garden tools, a bucket, barrel, mirror, garden bench, pulpit with writing utensils, a cup and spoon, etc., in vol. 3; 13 full-page engraved plates of flowers in vol. 8; and 13 full-page engraved plates showing games and pastimes for girls, such as playing ball, diabolo, badminton, dancing, playing with dolls, playing with a doll's house, etc. in vol. 12. 28, (4); 28, (4); 28, (4) pp.

Three most charming miniature books, parts of the French edition of "The Infant's Library", which was published in 16 volumes by John Marshall in London from about 1800 to 1807. Each volume has a finely designed typographical title-page and a colophon printed on verso of the last leaf. And each volume is devoted to a different subject, nicely illustrated with 13 engraved plates. Especially the volume illustrating young girls' games and pastimes is of interest. The title "Children's Library" was much used for series of miniature books and children's books at the time. Percy Muir often discusses the Marshall's as publishers of children's books, but he does not mention the present miniature series. Size of the books is ca. 6 x 4.5 cm.
