Extremely rare limited Bodoni imprint. Simon Pierre Mérard  de Saint-Just (1749-1812), was a rich French nobleman who wrote for pleasure and published his books in very limited editions. He called the present book "Fables and Contes" because his fables were mixed just like those of La Fontaine, as he explains on verso title, accompanied by a motto by Jean de La Fontaine. The book was printed by Bodoni in 25 copies only, all on "papier vélin".
