(4), XVI, 359 (1) pp. Acts from the Santiago episode during the so-called period of 'Patria Vieja', a time period in the History of Chile occurring between First Junta of the Government (September 18 , 1810) and the Disaster of Rancagua (October 1, 1814). This period was characterized by the transformation from a movement of temporary autonomy to one of independence. The Congress created the Law of liberty of the womb, that stated that all of the children of the slaves born in Chile were free. In 1812, it created the first constitutional decree, that agreed to recognize the king if he accepted certain constitutional regulations. José Toribio Medina (1852-1930) was a Chilean scholar. He traveled widely in Latin America, Europe, and the United States, collecting documents relevant to Latin American history. His numerous works include a history of colonial literature in Chile; Los aborígenes de Chile (1882); biographical works on Juan Díaz de Solis and others; several volumes on the Inquisition; numerous books on the history of printing in Spanish America; and the monumental Biblioteca hispano-americana.
