Late 17th century edition of these immensely popular books, full of edifying poems, as almost always bound together, by the devotional Dutch poet and follower of the famous Dutch poet Jacob Cats, Jacob Coenraedsz. Mayvogel (ca. 1600 - ca. 1650), of whom almost nothing is known except for the fact that he lived in Hoorn. The first edition of the Gulden-Spiegel, as well of the religious and devotoinal play Thamars ontschaakingh, is published in Hoorn, Arent Jansz. Chalon, 1646. In 1688 an edition of both works was published in Amsterdam by the widow of Theunis L. Loots-man. The first edition of the Vermakelycke bruylofs-kroon is printed in Amsterdam in 1659. Till the beginning of the 19th century many re-editions appeared, mainly in Amsterdam.
