A 18th century text-edition of the famous manuscript of Jacob van Maerlant who started on this this enormous work at the end of the 13th century, in 1283.
In 1782 J.A. Clignett (1756-1827) bought at an anonimous auction in Gent this manuscript. After his death it became part opf the collection of the Royal Dutch Acadamie of Science in Amsterdam. In 1937 the academie gave all its manuscripts, incunables and post-incunables in permanent loan to the Koninklijke Bibliotheek in The Hague, where it still is nowadays.
