Charming aquatints depicting Dutch historical monuments and folklore

Contemporary dark blue boards, gilt fillet borders on both sides. With engraved title by W. van Senus, dated 1809, 37 aquatints printed in bistre by L. Portman after G.J. Michaëlis, F.A. Milatz, C. Overman, and Hansen with city views, buildings, statues and historical sites in the Northern Provinces of the Netherlands with captions in French, accompanied by textleaves in Dutch and French. (40) lvs. Interesting tourist guide illustrated with charming aquatints depicting Dutch historical monuments and folklore (including ice skating), published by E. Maaskamp (1769-1834), with text in French and Dutch. Maaskamp used the plates before in his Reis door Holland (Amst., 1806-1812). The plates depict a.o. statues of Dutch national heroes such as Michiel A. de Ruyter, Erasmus, Laurens J. Coster, funeral processions, a view of the Royal Palace at Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Exchange, the ruines of the castle at Wijk bij Duurstede, the cabin at Zaandam, where Czar Peter the Great stayed during his visit to the Low Countries, and several city views: Utrecht, Broek in waterland, Nijmegen, Rotterdam, Vlissingen.
