With large engraved illustration on title, and 8 full-page fine engraved plates by Th. Koning after J. van Meurs. VIII, 92, (4) pp.

Finely illustrated educational book, posthumously published by J. Hazeu Cz. It was the last work of a school teacher at Zyderveld, Cornelis Müller (although Hazeu spells his name Muller), who at the end of the 18th century published a number of exemplary school and educational books. In the preface, Hazeu praises Müller's work, calling him a true children's guide, and adding an obituary poem on that theme. The short and simple stories, written in prose, verse and dialogues, are mainly on children's correct behaviour, like children must be content with what their parents give them, children should not be cruel to animals, children should be religious, etc. At the end a number of riddles is added.
The engraving on title shows a family in a fine living-room, drinking tea. One of the plates depicts the great virtue often found in a poor man's home, and another shows a fine room again with  father seated at the table while his children show him the books they have been studying.

Splendid copy in prize-binding of the "Schoolbestuur Amsterdams Tweede Department" of the educational society "Maatschappij Tot Nut van 't Algemeen", but without a prize certificate.
Waller 1250; not in KLKL, Cat. Van Rijn, etc.; not in NUC; on the prize-binding: cf. "De Prijs is het Bewijs" 45 (similar prize-binding from 1824).
